you came to join our table of friends
you smiled and joked and greeted me
everyone spoke and laughed while
i observed the changes of your face
the length of your hair, your stubbly chin
the sparkle in your eyes among friends
all else disappeared as i enjoyed the moment
for i knew it wouldn't be long

i attempted to force myself back to sleep
and when i gave up i realized
those few minutes with you in my dream
have refreshed my need for you
